End of Year Meeting:  Brick by Brick

Baylies Room, Old Whaling Church, Edgartown

6:00 pm Registration, 6:30 - 8:00 pm Program

Lynn Donohue, a junior high school dropout in New Bedford who became a self-made millionaire after becoming the area’s first woman bricklayer, has motivated thousands of women to overcome obstacles.

Lynn entered her teens with virtually no sense of self worth, no life skills, and no plan for her future. She was living out of her car and earning minimum wage as a bar tender at a local biker hang out when she stumbled onto a newspaper article about a new training program for women interested in construction trades. She quit the bar and began taking brick masonry training, a field completely dominated by men. She became the only woman in her local bricklayers union – where she found she could never get assigned to a crew. Finally, she started her own business and grew it into a multi-million dollar operation. Before the age of 40, the former drop out was a millionaire entrepreneur.

Today, she devotes much of her life to her foundation, Brick By Brick, a New Bedford-based non-profit organization that helps teenagers foster creativity and adults struggling with career choices. She is the author of a critically acclaimed book, Brick By Brick: A Woman's Journey.
